So, uh, yes
dA *ahem*
Since I Last Updated
I got through the two weeks following the update without going spare, and the cause for the craziness has gone. It's all caused rather mixed emotions, but I know that I made the right decision.
Three weeks after the last update, I went to Hungary for a little over a week
which was quite a lot of fun, and exactly what I needed after my summer. Took a
lot of photos, a couple of which I've put up here
but as it's taken me several months to put up
one photo from my trip to Canada in May, I'd not suggest holding your breath for updates.
Since then
three months out of work, finding a new job, starting a new job. Life's still as crazy as it was in the summer, but it's a different kind of crazya good kind of crazy
On the Photography Front
Still not getting out as often as I'd like, which is largely my own fault. Been doing a fair amount of playing around in Photoshop doing retouches for fun and profit
but as much as it's creative, I'd still rather be out behind the camera.
Then yesterday, wandering around in London I find a specialist Nikon reseller, so I wander in to take a look at lenses and flashes and quietly drool over the D300 and D3. Eventually wound up leaving with some interesting suggestions for kit and techniques and a
Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 lensI've been looking at getting one for a while, the price I was quoted was pretty darn good for new, and I got a fair amount of money for Christmas
I've only got a few hours' use out of it, but I'm already glad I bought it. If nothing else, the ability to shoot at f/1.8 makes night shots a lot easier until I get a tripod.
For the eternally curious, the remainder of my photography wish-list:
- a tripod
- an SB-600 flashgun (or maybe an -800, if I can justify the extra expense)
- a few more filters (mmm NDs)
- wide-angle lens (
this looks pretty good, although I was pointed at
this yesterday as well)
And in the long-run (ie, years away):
- a slightly faster mid-range lens (replace my 28-80)
- a D300, or whatever the equivalent is at the time
so now you know.
Happy New Year
I wish all the best to each and every one of youmay 2008 bring you everything you deserve.
-j
I'm aware that this is an ambiguous statement. I'd say "everything you desire", but I wholeheartedly believe that if everyone got what they desired, it'd be a generally bad thingour desires aren't always good for us. Hence, my wish that all get what they deserve
in an entirely positive way, of course

A true artist uses everything in their ability, but the art itself, is in them.
... yup, it was a long time ago

... seriously though, worry ye not about it - I'm nowhere near nationalistic enough to start running around with pitchforks (or rather, mining axes) and demanding blood. I mean, I can't get past the first line of the national anthem here (er... Mae hen wlad fy nhadau yn annwyl i mi..., I think *shame*).
As for employment ... I know I kept the tourism departments of BC and Alberta (but mostly BC) employed - not to mention amused - with my antics, I'm not sure about ON

I envy you for getting to live in England. It seems like an awesome place to be. I mean, Canada has free medical coverage, but other than that...
Anyway, hope to see more of your photographs
